Musculoskeletal Disorder (MSD) Prevention Awareness Training

Awareness is the first step toward preventing MSDs which are a common and costly type of workplace injury. In 2009 alone, MSDs accounted for almost half all lost-time claims and were associated with WSIB costs totaling close to $112 million (Source: WSIB data, 2009).

This course provides general awareness of MSDs and understanding of the hazards and generates discussion about workplace controls. It has been specially designed to be personalized either to your workplace or industry sector.

Topics include

• MSDs: what they are; signs & symptoms; importance of early reporting
• MSD hazards, including force, repetition and posture
• MSD prevention, including workplace controls and personal protective equipment

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

• Discuss what MSDs are
• Talk about how to identify MSD hazards at work
• Talk about how to prevent MSDs in the workplace

Target Audience

• Workplace parties with limited or no knowledge about MSD prevention and companies that are just starting to work on their MSD prevention policies / programs
• Can be delivered to a broad audience consisting of workers, supervisors and employers / owners
